Dr. Charlie Schaefer graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1992 with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and an M.A. in Theology. Throughout his graduate and professional career, he has focused on supporting adults, adolescents, and children struggling to grow and meet the challenges they face in their relationships, work, and at school. He has worked in both private practice and community mental health settings. Prior to training as a psychologist, he was involved in Christian ministry as the youth leader for his church and also as a cross-cultural worker living in Togo, West Africa. Charlie is married to Frauke Schaefer, who is a psychiatrist and who served in medical missions as a doctor in Nepal. Together with his wife, he has continued his focus on supporting churches and Christian ministries through consultation with pastors and Christian organizations, providing psychological support to those in domestic and international ministry, and traveling internationally to lead and teach at workshops and retreats. He has a particular interest in the Christian spiritual resources that help us to be resilient in times of trauma, grief, conflict, shame, and guilt. Charlie co-authored and co-edited Trauma & Resilience: Effectively Supporting Those Who Serve God. |
